How we protect your information

Information we collect
When you request food assistance, we collect your name, required email address, required cellphone number, city, state, ZIP code, household size, description of your food need, optional information about other resources you may need, communication permissions, and the messages exchanged about your request. We do not request Social Security numbers, banking information, identification documents, medical records, or children’s names.
When you use the general contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message. We also maintain privacy-conscious aggregate counts of page views and link clicks. These counts are not used to build advertising profiles.
How we use information
We use the information to review food requests, determine whether a person is within our New Jersey service area, communicate in writing, maintain accurate service records, share possible resource information, protect the request process from misuse, and improve the website.
Communication
Email is GHGNP’s primary contact method. We do not call applicants. We send service-related text messages only when the applicant has checked the text-permission box. Applicants must reply within 12 hours after an actual GHGNP response or the request will be closed. A new request may be submitted seven days after closure.
Who can see the information
Applicant profiles and messages are not displayed publicly or sold. Access is restricted to the authorized GHGNP administrator and the technology service providers that securely host and process the website and database. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect safety and legal rights.
Retention and deletion
Assistance records are retained for three years from the most recent service or contact date and then become eligible for deletion. People may request correction or deletion by emailing ghgnp@yahoo.com, subject to records GHGNP must retain for legal or operational reasons.
Security
We use restricted administrative access and reasonable technical safeguards. No online system can promise absolute security, so we collect only information needed for the food-assistance process.
Outside links
Givebutter, Candid, My Shop, and other linked websites have their own privacy practices. Information submitted directly to those services is governed by their policies.
